Hi Jim and Lynn,

You may recall that the Macon team that was on the field prior to our team during Sunday afternoon's game had left the field in grief. We all got bits and pieces that possibly one of the team's player had been badly injured or something to that effect.

Below is a link to the story about what happened. Sadly the player had an allergic reaction to nuts he had eaten the evening before and he has died. The details are contained in the AJC article. It would be great if you could forward this to the team so they will know why the Macon team was behaving as they did and the details of what happened.

Message from President's Cup about rain tomorrow

We hope you and your team had a great day at the President's Cup. There were lots of competitive games throughout the day and tomorrow should be even better!

The forecast is calling for showers tomorrow throughout the day. We will play all games as scheduled unless there is severe weather or the fields become unsafe. We are not expecting either of those to happen. We will post any field updates on the website.

Bring your umbrellas and rain gear tomorrow. And, don't forget to wish all the Moms on your team a Happy Mother's Day!

need help with Manace and Ephram

Jim and I need to some help with getting Manace and Ephram to the President's cup game on Saturday morning.

They have moved to 5533 Forest Drive, Loganville, GA 30052. This is closer to Grayson along Hwy 81.

Jim is going to Savannah to watch Jake in the State Tournament. He plans to drive back on Friday night but it will 1 or 2 am. Then, he need to go early as manager on Saturday morning,

I have 10 girls over for Aleah's Birthday Friday night.

So, we could really use some help.

If we win, we will play again at 2:30pm.

Several of you have not paid the training fees for this April/May. It is $95 for these combo months. Please give check to me or Jim when you see us.

On another note, PCA won the second State round last night vs. Pace Academy. We go to Savannah tomorrow and play them on Friday. Jake again played the entire game and did a great job. The game went to OT and then to PKs.

The GSA website still shows that fields are open. But, before coming to practice at 8pm, please check website.

Now that JV soccer season has ended for High School, the GSA 97 Black Cll team will begin training for the President's Cup.

Just another heads up that our GSA Black team will begin training in April for the President's Cup. The tourney is May 12 and 13. Training fees will apply for a month of training.

As per Nuno,

"HS age teams will re group once kids r done with HS season, usually beginning of May or mid to late April, then they start getting ready for President's cup, state cup or end of season tourney.

High School teams

Hello GSA 97 Black team,

I hope that everyone is doing well. I really miss all of the GSA 97 Black team players!

I would love to know where your son is playing for your High School teams.

Jake is playing for both the Varsity and JV teams at PCA. He plays the main goalie for the JV team. And, he plays Left Mid/Wing and goalie for the Varsity team. He has been practicing with the teams and playing indoor soccer since December. Jake will be playing in 30 games not counting the play offs this season.

For the first game, PCA played Berkmar High School on Tuesday and Jake played the entire game as left mid. Jake is loving it!

I am the team manager. We are really busy as you can imagine.

The following note is from the Briscoe Venue Coordinator, please review so you are in the know! I've also attached the latest version of the volunteer spreadsheet since there have been a few changes.

This is Joe Amaya and I am the TW Brisco Park, Venue Director and 99 Blue, Team Manage. I want to thank you on behalf of GSA, for volunteering your time to help with this event. We could not do it without you.

My wife Lynn and I went by Brisco Park today. The fields are in about the same shape as GSA. There is very little shade and no wind break near the soccer fields. But the weather should be very nice this weekend. Follow the directions in the link and you should be fine.

Come in the main entrance and just keep following the speed bumps. If you are playing on field 3, it is a shorter walk to the field if you park in the Park Office parking lot. You will see the Park Office on your left about a quarter mile from the park entrance. If you are playing on fields 1 and 2 continue on another 200 yards and you will see the fields on your right. At the stop sign turn right into the parking lot. A tent should be set up in that parking lot next to an orange Honda Element.

Come sign in and we can talk about what needs to be done.

GSA Adidas Invitational Volunteer Schedule

All,

Initially, not sure if you are aware of this but we will have approximately 445 teams participating in this weekend's GSA Adidas Invitational.

Over the years this tournament has not only resulted in monies being available for the fields lights, sodded fields, and general maintenance of the facility BUT provided an excellent soccer experience for thousands of kids.

Here is our take of placing you in a volunteer position where we have time slots needed to be filled. If this time doesn't work for you contact me via email or cell phone at 678-780-9547.

As a volunteer you are expected to show up at Briscoe and look for the centrally located GSA Adidas Invitational tent and take direction from the Venue Coordinators.

Hello,

I just wanted to let everyone know that we have decided not to register for the Athens tournament. We did Not have enough players that would commit to playing at the tournament.

I anticipate the fields being closed tonight. I am trying to secure indoor space. Parkview is not available at this time. Soccer Academy is booked up but we are on standby.

I will let you know if something changes.

volunteers needed for the Addidas Invitational

Please read the below information about volunteering for the Addidas Invitational which is sponsored by GSA. Please let me know the postion(s) that you would like to volunteer for the tournament.

We are not able to get specific yet with the volunteer schedule. It's difficult to nail down the specific times for the shifts until the schedules are actually posted. We want to try and avoid having parents working while the games for their children are taking place. We may not be able to avoid it completely, but we want to try.

Each position is important to create an overall postive experience for the visiting teams. We want them to have a great experience and continue to come back for future tournaments.

Once the schedules are posted, we need to fill in the job duties.

Volunteer Positions for the Addidas Invitational:

1) Field Marshal -- wears orange vest, checks in teams 10 to 15 minutes prior to game time verifying player names and numbers, walks around assigned fields and helps with injured players, enforces GSA complex rules (no smoking, no foul/abusive language, no pets), empties trash when 1/2 full and puts in new bag.
2) Trash/Cleaning -- canvases the fields and picks up trash, uses the golf cart with the cargo box on the back to pick up the trash bags that have been tied and stationed by the trash cans around the complex, haul the trash bags and deposit them into the dumpster, assists with monitoring/cleaning the bathrooms, helps get plumber is needed, and with parking monitoring if needed.
3) Parking -- keeps traffic flowing and prevents cars from creating a jam in the parking lot, ensures the handicap spaces are used by cars with handicap permits, prevents parking at adjacent/near church lots on Sunday, also performs hospitality by greeting and offering assistance with directions to fields at the venue.
4) T-Shirt Sales -- two people must be present to for t-shirt sales as this area handles money, once all the t-shirts have been sold, this area's assigned volunteers will become floaters.
5) Scoring -- assists in collecting scores, may enter scores, and helps around the clubhouse as needed -- needs to be a very detail oriented individual with good computer skills.
6) Floating -- assists the Tournament and Venue Director as needed, fills in critical areas as needed.
7) Trophies -- on Sunday, preps the Trophy areas for Trophy presentations and cleans up after the Trophies are presented.

Triumph Tournament update

Hello,

First of all, congratulations to our team for a well played game on Saturday. Very exciting! Our team's chemistry has really come together.

It was great having Jeff sitting on the bench with our team. We look forward to having him back on the field. We appreciate Jake filling in for Jeff. He did an awesome job as goalie and showed true character by putting the needs of team first. Jake, you a true team player! And, it was really a boost to the team to have Marco back with us. And, wonderful to Jake Chapman back on the field. Eric Hollister will be fine by the next game.

I have a bit of disappointing news. We were informed this morning that we've been removed from the Triumph Cup. We signed up a little late but were told that our team was accepted. The director indicated that they just couldn't fit us in.
We will follow up with him over the next couple of days to see if any team cancels.

Our team is still playing in the Adidas cup at GSA December 2-4.

We are looking at participating in some other tournments now.

We will have practice as usual on Monday and Wednesday. Wednesday does show rain on the forecast so be sure to check the GSA website for field status.

Hello,

Our team will have Regular practice on Wednesday night. Coach Mike is also offering practice on Friday night from 6 to dark on Crossroads field. This is the only field available to us on Friday because other fields are being marked for Saturday's games.

Some player updates:

Jeff is doing better but still has a long way to go. He will not able to play with us this coming weekend. We continue to miss Jeff and pray for a speedy recovery. Please keep Jeff in your thoughts and prayers.

Eric Dallow has resigned from our team to better pursue his passion of Cross Country. We wish him the best.

Great news! Marco Rodriquez plans to rejoin our team for the rest of the season! It will be great to have Marco back on the team! He plans to be at practices this week.

Jake Chapman goes to the Doctor this week and we are hoping for some good news that he will be able to play this weekend.

Game this Saturday at home. Wear your red kit but bring your white just in case.

A Call Out from Coach Ron

I would like for our players to be ball kids at our Region tournament on Oct. 29 & Oct. 30. The games are played on our campus field in Dunwoody. The address is 2101 Womack Rd., Dunwoody, GA 30338. The games are 11am and 3pm on Saturday the 29th of Oct. and the final is 2 pm on the 30th of Oct. They do not have to be at both Saturday games or maybe half the team can do one game and the other half do the second game. This would be a chance to see good soccer up close and personal.

I am taking a van full of boys on Saturday: Jake Freeman, Manace, Ephram, Daniel, Bryan and Josea. We are staying for both games.

Reminder of practice tonight

Reminder: We will have practice tonight at GSA fields from 6 to 8pm. The lights will not be turned on so we will practice until it's dark- clost to 8pm. We will have a full field to practice on!

We only have two games left in the regular season and then the tournamnent at GSA in December. Let's get some extra training in so that we can finish strong in the season!

I hope that the boys that are injured are healing well! OUr next game is November 6th so we hope to have many players return for the last two games.

Directons for game on Sunday, Oct. 16th, updates

Here are directions for the game scheduled for Sunday, October 16^th at 5pm. The game will be played at Scott Hudgens Park (SHP) (also known as River Green) on Field #5.

The address for SHP is 4545 River Green Parkway NW, Duluth, GA 30096

The easiest way to get there from I-85 North:

Exit 103 and turn left on Steve Reynolds/Boulevard

Go about 1 mile and turn left onto Pleasant Hill Rd

Stay on Pleasant Hill Rd for 3.3 miles

Turn right onto Peachtree Industrial Blvd

After .9 miles, turn left onto River Green Parkway.

After .8 miles, the entrance to the fields will be on the right.

Continue past the practice fields till you pass the game fields on the right and the concession stand. Field #5 is the second to last field.

If you have any problems with directions, you can contact Chris Kennedy at 404-431-0422 or Coach Jonathan Collier at 404-401-5843.

I apologize but I have been telling our team the wrong uniform colors!! Please wear red kit for home games and the white kit for away games. Always bring your other color uniform just in case.

We still have several players out with injuries. Hopefully, all it will take is a little more rest for some.

I talked to Jeff and he is feeling much better today. Please send him a note or give him a call. He will be greatly missed this weekend.

I am working on getting guest players from other GSA teams to play with our team this coming weekend. WE need as many of our own healthy players as possible!

Jeff was injured in this weekend's games. His Dad, Dennis, said that this is going to be very hard on him.

Jeff always gives all that he has to our team! He has been an awesome leader to our team and an inspiration to us all! He is a great goalie and has saved many a game for our team!

They run $25 which includes the player's number embroidered on one of the arm sleeves. Sizes run YS-YXL and AS-XXXL. Welcome to the beginning of the fall season! The weather forecast is perfect and everything is in place for another great season!

Just a couple of reminders:

1) The team that is listed as HOME on the schedule is responsible for providing a field marshal for your game.

Would anyone like to volunteer for this prestigious job?!

2) For those of you who are new: Parking is only allowed in designated areas. Parking in yellow curb areas or along Cole Road is not allowed and illegally parked cars will be towed. Overflow parking is available at Parkview, Camp Creek and the church parking lot next to Spencer field.

Message from Coach Ron about the Atlanta Cup:

I am very proud of the boys and how well they played. More importantly how
they listened and responed to what I asked of them. We will improve each
practice and each game and will win many more games in the future. Losing
1-0 to a Classic I team is an excellent result. The boys should be very
proud of themselves. I think we deserved at least a tie. I wish all of you a
good Labor Day. Too bad we missed playing on Labor Day. The 5th is my
birthday and I have never lost as a coach on my birthday.

A few critical callouts as follows:

Attached is our schedule of games and the instructions on how to get to the Oconee fields. - Call me if you have any questions.

Lynn or I will have the Atlanta Cup Player Release form available for you to sign at both practices this week. You must sign of your son can't play.

The battle continues with the uniforms. With being the last year of this uniform style it's tough to find sizes in both shirts and shorts that are available.

As of today, we are missing white/red shorts for ALL new players! Last week Euro Sports and GSA reached agreement to use another vendor for the shorts.

Coach Ron will be leading the team this weekend since Coach Mike will not be available.

Hello,

It was great having Coach Balson back along with Assistant Coach Moore training our GSA 97 boys black team. It was a great week of training and scrimmages! Again, thanks to Coach Delroy and Coach Moore for thier help in Coach Balson's absence!

I have had a chance to look at a list of our opponents for the upcoming season. Since our team has moved up to Classic II, it will be a challenging and exciting year!

Which brings me to my point, it is imperitive that all players attend all training sessions.

I need your help! I am not able to pick up Manace and Ephram for training sessions on Wednesday nights.

The boys can get to practices on Monday nights and Jim or I can get them home after practices. And, at this point, Jim and I can get them to all games.

Is there anyone who is willing to help us out for Wednesday practices? Here's their info:

first week of training

Hello,

What a great week at GSA soccer camp! It was really hot and the boys played like they were on fire!

Training will begin next week on Monday and Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:00. We still need to find out where we are training so I will meet the boys at the main entrance. Coach Delroy will be working with our boys on Monday and Assistant Coach Ron Moore will be working with our boys on Wednesday. Thanks so much to these Coaches for standing in while Coach Balson is in England for his Father's funeral. Please keep Coach Balson and his family in your prayers.

I am collecting monthly dues which are $95. Please make check GSA Phoneix "97 black team. (So Sorry but after some discussion with Jim, the checks will be made out to the team.) I still need to collect $290 for registration from a couple of families and $160 for new uniforms.

I asked Nuno about the camp tshirts. They should be available in a couple of weeks. It is to my understanding from Nuno that these shirts will cost $12 each.

TOURNAMENT T-SHIRTS:

If you want to pre-order let me know as by 8/15 and I will take care of this for us.
I encourage you to pre-order to guarantee you get the sizes you need. The shirt is a really nice 7-color design.

HOTELS:

If you want to stay overnight and I will work with the Atlanta Cup folks to make this happen, the Connections Housing will be open this Saturday, August 5 from 9 am - 2 pm so I need to know today (just was notifed about 10 minutes ago).

Please remember that teams are required to book rooms through Connections.

All,

I need to offer an apology to each of you due my inability to stay in touch with you since July 5th in the manner that you need and that I expect of myself.

The recent demands of my job have resulted in the team I lead and myself working on average 18-20 hours a day 7 days a week. I get a 2 hour break a day, that being driving to and from work.

I've had more difficulty keeping the new families updated since there is more to take care of with registration, uniforms, and personal issues related to each family.

Further, as of the last week, email that I would normally receive at work has been blocked, found out TODAY, making it even more difficult for you to reach me.

As you can the demands of my job even prevented me from attending camp this week, which is very difficult for me to accept much less expect you to understand or accept.

I expect that after next week, we will return to a more normal work load, which will allow me to focus on the commitments I've made to serve you, our children, and GSA.

I do want to thank my wife, Lynn, for jumping in and covering for me and doing her best to help you. She is flying by the seat of her pants, but has been remarkable. She has listened to the concerns some of you have expressed and has sought to meet your needs in a non-selfish and caring manner.

Late breaking news!

Just a reminder that team camp starts on Monday (August 1). Camp goes from 6-9pm every day except for Friday we finish at 7 30pm.

Please have players meet by clubhouse along with their teammates prior to start of camp.

We will have plenty of water available but also ask all players to bring lots of extra fluids. Remember to bring soccer ball and proper training gear, along with shoes, we prefer players training with turf shoes and then using cleats for scrimmages during camp. Also shin guards are required.

Looking forward to the start of what looks to be an incredibly exciting year for GSA.

Atlanta Cup

ALL,

I'm privileged to announce that we will be particpating in the Atlanta Cup over Labor Day weekend, September 3-5, 2011.

Now in its 33rd year, the tournament has become one of the premier tournaments in the country.

Teams will be grouped according to past playing record to make the most competitive divisions possible. The Publix Atlanta Cup Committee alone determines final placement. The Committee uses many factors when ranking teams including league playing division and record, State Cup and tournament results, USA Rank ranking service, etc.

All teams will play 3 round-robin games - 2 on Saturday and 1 on Sunday Morning. Semi-finals are played on Sunday afternoon and Finals are played on Monday. The latest finals will begin at 2:00 PM on Monday.

This year promises to be very exciting with Mike Balson at the lead for 2011-12, and a new group of talented players joining the squad. The roster for the upcoming year is below.

Jim Freeman will be acting as team manager next year, and I will be helping him make the transition between now and signing day. I will no longer act as manager beyond signing night.

Staph infection information

Bad Bug (MRSA) Alert: Important Implications for Parents & Players

The headlines across the country and locally say it all. There is a new type of staph infection, MRSA, which has become increasingly prevalent in schools and athletic teams nationwide. If not recognized and treated immediately, MRSA infections have the potential for some very serious outcomes, including death.

Staph/MRSA infections look like an abscess, boil, ingrown hair or pimple. In soccer players they may result from an abrasion, turf burn or other open wound, and are spread by skin-to-skin contact. These infections may occur on any area of the body, including the face, extremities, buttocks, groin and pubic areas, and are usually red, swollen, painful, and may have drainage.

Because they tend to spread rapidly from person to person, preventing staph/MRSA infections is imperative. At home and elsewhere, those players with open wounds should not share soap, towels, razors or deodorant, and players should shower immediately following practice and games to avoid infection. On the field, players should be diligent about having their open wounds covered and protected completely, and should get into the habit of checking for open wounds on a regular basis.

Given the potential seriousness of staph/MRSA infections, and the fact that I have already seen a player this season with a serious infection, it is imperative that any suspected staph/MRSA infection be seen by a physician immediately. Failure to do so may result in dire consequences.

Uniform Shorts and Borrowed Uniforms

Tonight I will be passing out temporary shorts from Eurosport for those players that have not received their new uniform shorts. These are to be used until the custom shorts are ready.

Thank you to the families that loaned us uniforms for the U-13 team. I am thrilled that we had enough for all the new players on Palmer's team. I will be getting them back from players tomorrow night and returning them to you on Wednesday.

Need to borrow uniforms

Good Morning everyone!

I am wondering if anyone will loan us their Adult Medium uniform for the weekend of Aug. 28th and 29th. Our team does not have any games that weekend. Our younger son's team (U13 Black) has at least 5 players that need uniforms in order to play in the NASA soccer tournament.

I am open to using the old style of uniform if I can not get enough of the new style.

I have been advised that we will be using Miller Field this fall for training. (For our new players, if you stand at the clubhouse looking at the fields, Miller is located to your right. Spencer field is the far field, and Miller is the one closer to the clubhouse.)

Summer training

Parents:

Dave would like to start summer training next week. Before we proceed, I must hear from everyone about availability for the sessions.

We will have a Monday - Wednesday schedule, and sessions will run from 6:30 to 8pm. We will have 6 sessions: July 12th, 14th, 19th, 21st, 26th and 28th. (Team camp starts the week of August 2nd, with regular season practice starting the following week.)

Summer sessions will be $10 each.

We intend to use Crossroads for our sessions, however I am waiting for authorization from the club to use the field.

Please contact me no later than Wednesday this week to advise of your son's availability for the summer sessions.

You can order backpacks, extra socks, and warm up suits using the same form. We will want to get the initial order in this week, but we can place another order in the fall if needed.

If you have any trouble completing the form please let me know. It will automatically figure the cost and shipping and give you a total.

Our match is scheduled for 7:30pm on Field 1, which is the turf field we played on last time. Please plan to arrive at 7:00 to allow adequate warmup time, or even a bit earlier if you can manage.

We will wear a FULL WHITE kit. Please make sure to bring your red jersey, however, as I have not received an email response from the Ambush manager confirming colors.

The address for the park is 4780 Webb Bridge Road, Alpharetta GA, 30005.

Given the amount of traffic after 5 pm during the week, it will certainly be best to avoid taking Georgia 400, and instead travel north on Pleasant Hill Road (by Gwinnett Place Mall), which turns into State Bridge Road at the Fulton County line. After 4.5 miles on State Bridge, turn right on Kimball Bridge Road. Turn left on to Webb Bridge Way and then right on Webb Bridge Road, and the park will be on your left.

Tournament job assignments

My apologies for bombarding everyone today with emails, however the schedule is busy with the GSA tournament and the Ambush reschedule next week.

The schedule for tournament jobs has us working as field marshals and at the scoring/t-shirt table in 60 minute shifts.

I have tried to schedule everyone to avoid other conflicts with siblings playing at different times and locations. I expect someone will have a conflict, however, and I apologize in advance if that is the case.

If you wish to change shifts with someone, please contact them directly and make the arrangements. I will not make the changes unless both parties agree to the change.

When you arrive for your shift, come to the venue director's tent, which is normally located by the lower fields, and check in with the venue director on duty. I will be working with Charles Norton and Mark Adamczyk as venue directors throughout the weekend.

For Shanks and Thomas - at Livsey on Sunday - look for the field marshal on duty and obtain the vest. No need to come to Henderson to check in.

I will be your primary contact for any issues over the weekend. Use my cell number (404-274-6512) as a contact.

Volunteer duties at GSA Supercup

I have just received the spreadsheet from GSA regarding the blocks of time we will need to cover as volunteers during the Supercup, and will be putting together an assignment list this evening. Everyone will have a shift, which will last 45 minutes, or 60 minutes at the most.

Fortunately, most of our jobs are at Henderson (some are at Livsey, on the other side of the park), and will involve acting as field marshall - so even if your assignment falls during our matches, you'll still be able to watch the game.

I have been asked to work with Charles Norton and Mark Adamczyk as venue director at Henderson, so when you report for shift, one of us will be there to direct traffic.

It's fairly painless, and a large part of what makes our tournament run smoothly. I thank everyone in advance!

Please note that Clarkesville is approximately 75 miles from GSA, so please allow adequate travel time to arrive by 10:30 am. I urge everyone to familiarize yourself with the map, directions and location of this field, as it can be tricky to find! If you can get to Clarkesville, you're 99% of the way there.

Take I-85 North. At Suwanee, take the I-985 North exit toward Gainesville. At Gainesville, I-985 changes into GA 365. Continue North on GA 365. Exit at sign for GA 197 (Mt Airy/Clarkesville) Turn left onto GA 197 North at end of ramp. Follow GA 197 North to 4 way stop. Continue through. I have not received a response from AFU regarding kit colors for Friday's match.

May is the final month for monthly fees. They are due before the 10th. If everyone could pay them as soon as possible it would help me to close out the year. After all fees are collected and final expenses paid out, I will be able to figure out refund amounts.

Because of a slight job oversight by me and my superior, I will not be able to completely attend the AFU Tournament, and I will only able to do the first game on Saturday morning. Weather permitting, we are scheduled to play Bluesprings on Sunday at 3:30 pm.

Please plan to arrive by 3pm for warmup.

Bluesprings is approximately 20 miles from GSA, south of Loganville.

Directions: From GSA, take Hwy 78 East to Loganville. In Loganville, turn right onto Hwy 81 South. Go 3 1/2 miles and turn right at the traffic light onto Centerhill Church Rd. Go 1/4 mile, and turn left into Bluesprings Sports Ranch. Follow the dirt drive till you reach the parking lot on left.

We will be on Field 2.

We will wear a FULL WHITE kit for this match.

Our upcoming schedule - important!

I have had a few questions about the upcoming schedule, so I am posting this announcement to (hopefully) clear up any questions.

First, we have two matches this weekend:

Saturday at 3pm vs. CGSA at home.

Sunday at 3:30pm vs. Bluesprings at Bluesprings.

The following weekend, May 1-2, we will be playing in the AFU tournament. Schedules have not been posted, so our location and times for games are still unknown.

The weekend following the AFU tournament, we will have games on Friday, May 7th at 6:30pm at home vs. AFU, and Saturday, May 8th at 11am vs. NGSA in Clarkesville, which is in north Georgia.

Our final regular season game will be on Saturday, May 15th at 9am vs. Ambush in Alpharetta.

We will close the spring season in the GSA Super Cup tournament on May 22-23.

May games are not yet posted on the team website, however the calendar will be updated shortly. Please contact me if you have any questions about the schedule.

I have been working with the AFU manager about our match scheduled for Saturday, April 10th.

AFU has advised that they will not be able to field an adequate squad to play the match, and as it stands, we will be missing several of our players too.

Dave indicated this week that he wants to play AFU at full strength.

We have agreed to reset the match to Friday, May 7th at 6:30 p.m. at GSA.

My apologies to any of you whose spring break plans may be affected. The reschedule was not finalized until today, and I was not entirely sure that it would be reset.

Sunday vs. Cannons - kit colors, map

Our match tomorrow vs. Cannons is at 1pm at Whitlock Park in Newnan. We will be on field 11.

Please try to arrive by 12:30 for warmup. Whitlock Park is approximately 45 miles from GSA, so plan accordingly.

Our kit will be ALL RED.

Directions:

Go south on I-85 to Newnan Exit(# 47)- Hwy. 34 / Bullsboro Drive.

Turn left at the exit red light and go approximately 1.5 miles through 4 red lights (you will pass Wal-Mart on the right, Home Depot shopping center on the left). The fourth red light will be at the Yamaha Manufacturing plant on the left and the fields are visible from the street on the left just after that. The next red light will be at a car dealership on your left and White Oak Professional Center on your right. Turn left at that light between the car dealership and the Quik Trip gas station.

There are two parking lots. The first lot has access to fields 7, 8, 9, 10 & 11.

Saturday match vs. CFC Redstar - Directions, Kit

Our match on Saturday against CFC Redstar is scheduled for 12 noon, in Columbus. We will be on field 6.

Note that our kit color will be slightly different than usual: WHITE jersey/WHITE shorts/RED socks. (This is the same kit we wore in Columbus in the fall. I'm superstitious.)

Also, please recall that CFC is approximately 130 miles from GSA. Make certain to allow adequate travel time to arrive at 11:30 for warmup. Directions are below.

Sat game against Dacula - need response

Dacula has contacted us and said that it is highly unlikely that the game will be played in the morning tomorrow due to field conditions. They are considering moving the game to a later start time.

I need everyone to email me and let me know if they are available for an afternoon game tomorrow. Dacula has not given me a specific time and I am not even sure that the game will be moved, but I need everyone to let me know their status.

If we do not hear from you expect to get a phone call later today from us. We have to know so we don't agree to a game and not have enough players.

Although it has not been posted on the Georgia Soccer calendar yet, please note that our May 2 game against Coweta Cannons has been moved up to Sunday, March 28th at 1pm.

It was necessary for us to move this match to allow us to play in the AFU tournament the weekend of May 1-2.

Unfortunately, March 28 was the only date we could both agree upon.

I have updated the team page calendar to reflect the change.

Game vs. CFC Redstar; training Friday, 3/5

I have received several emails asking about our match against Columbus, which currently remains on the GSSA calendar for 3/6.

This match has been cancelled, and has been rescheduled for Saturday, 3/27 at noon in Columbus. GSSA contacted me by email this morning and advised that the GSSA calendar will be updated to reflect the change today or tomorrow. The March calendar on our team website has the correct information.

Our next match is Saturday, 3/13 at Dacula.

We will have a training session on Friday, starting at 6:45. Dave and I are assuming that the GSA complex will be open by that time, and this will be a good opportunity for our squad to have an additional session on grass ahead of the spring season.

Fantastic work today from all of our players, producing two shutouts!

And there's great news: Thanks to favorable results in the other matches today within our bracket, we are assured of making the final tomorrow afternoon regardless of the outcome of our Sunday morning match against AFU.

Therefore, tomorrow's schedule looks like this:

8 am vs. AFU Gold at Livsey field (where we were this afternoon)

1 pm vs. Dacula or Alpharetta at the Concorde Ashford-Dunwoody fields. (This is relatively close to where we played this morning.)

We are the home team for both matches, and will wear ALL RED for both games.

The directions to Concorde for the afternoon game are:

On I-285 traveling west, take the Ashford-Dunwoody exiit, #29. Turn left, and travel approximately 1.5 miles. The fields are on the right. The address is 3820 Ashford-Dunwoody Road, Atlanta 30319.

Concorde - URGENT - Location Changes!

I have learned that our locations have changed for our matches. Please note that the times have not changed, but we are no longer playing any games at Pinkneyville Park.

Our first match will be played at Ridgeview Middle School at 8am Saturday. We will wear ALL RED for this match. It will likely be at or near freezing at game time, and in the interest of avoiding injuries, please plan to arrive at 7:30 to allow the players an adequate chance to warm up.

These are directions to Ridgeview:

Take I-285 Westbound to exit #28, Peachtree Dunwoody Road. Turn left onto Peachtree Dunwoody and travel about 1-1⁄2 miles to South Trimble Road (if you see the large YMCA soccer complex at Peachtree Dunwoody and Windsor Parkway you have gone too far). Turn right onto South Trimble Road and travel about 1⁄2 mile to the first parking lot entrance at Ridgeview Middle School. Field is at the far end of the parking lot.

The address for Ridgeview Middle School is: 5340 Trimble Road NE, Atlanta, 30342.

Our second match on Saturday will be played at 1pm at Livsey Field, which is part of Henderson Park, in Tucker. (Everyone should be familiar with this park, since we played our last match of the fall season against Norcross at the TYSA fields.) We will wear ALL WHITE for this match.

Please note that the Livsey field is NOT in the main TYSA complex. It is on the other side of Henderson Park, and must be accessed by Chamblee Tucker Road, turning on to Livsey Road and going past Livsey Elementary School. Here is a link to a map marking the location of Livsey Field:

Although the GSA complex is open for the spring season, it is unfortunately closed tonight due to last night's rain.

We will train in the Parkview lot from 6:45 to 8:15.

Please note: Dave has asked me to have players bring a SIZE 3 or SIZE 4 ball, or a futsal ball to training if you have one. Smaller balls will work better in the space we are using.

I expect we'll be back on grass this week if it does not rain on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Regular season schedule

Many of you have asked about the regular season schedule, which is to start on March 6th.

Georgia Soccer provided managers and coaches with a tentative schedule last week, which was very favorable to us regarding our matches away. Unfortunately, this schedule was replaced on Thursday with a new schedule, which added a team to Classic III, and was completely different from the first.

I received notice late last night from the U13 coordinator stating that there were some errors made to the second set of schedules. They have now been taken down, and I do not know when revised schedule will be released.

I am hopeful that we will have the schedule in the next few days for distribution.

If the bracket does not change, we will have a total of 11 regular season games.

I am still waiting for word on indoor space at Parkview tonight. We may not get it until the last minute. We'll be in the parking lot if it isn't available.

I am looking into scheduling a session this weekend at Silverbacks park since we were snowed out last weekend. I will let everyone know details when I get them, however keep this in mind when making weekend plans. (This will be a good training opportunity, since the weather looks like it will cooperate, and we will have field space instead of asphalt!) Please let me know if you will NOT be available this weekend.

Schedules are not yet posted for Concorde. I will have the tournament release form tonight at practice and will need signatures.

Cobb Classic has been canceled.

I have received notice this afternoon that the Cobb Classic has been canceled due to weather and poor conditions.

2010 Cobb Classic Canceled by Cobb County Parks & Recreation

Marietta, GA – Cobb Futbol Club announced today that this year’s Adidas Cobb Classic has been cancelled due to a combination of factors related to an advanced field closure notice, including forecast snow for metro-Atlanta, sub-zero wind chill temperatures through Saturday creating an unsafe playing environment, and the likelihood of frozen fields creating unsafe playing conditions underfoot.

“A decision handed down by Cobb County Parks and Recreation closing all soccer fields in the county makes it very difficult for us to establish a sufficient number of alternate venues to reschedule the majority of the affected games. When combined with the possibility that many of the teams traveling from outside of metro-Atlanta in particular would face unsafe driving conditions, as well as the likelihood of unsafe playing conditions for the majority of games rescheduled through Saturday morning and early afternoon, the decision forces us to cancel this year’s event,” said Cobb FC Board of Directors President David Borgel. “We are deeply saddened by this action, but our hands are tied.”

The decision by Cobb County was based on their inspection of the fields which found them saturated with water. Likely freezing and later thawing of the ground on Saturday, along with the many games that are scheduled, could make the fields unplayable by Sunday. Under these circumstances, player safety was a contributing factor towards the decision to not permit Cobb FC the use of the county fields.

This year’s Classic was on track to be the club’s most successful effort to date with nearly 300 teams from Georgia and surrounding states. A decision regarding refunds will be made in the next few days.

“We wanted to get the word out as quickly as we could so that teams traveling and those with hotel reservations could act quickly.” said Cobb FC’s Director of Coaching and Tournament Chair Steve Gummer. “We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the County’s decision to close all fields. It is our hope that this early decision to cancel the tournament will allow for time to adjust schedules and eliminate unnecessary travel and expense.”

Unfortunately, the GSA complex is not open until 2/8. Indoor space is not available on Monday, so we will have our session at the Parkview High parking lot.

I was unable to secure indoor space on Tuesday or Wednesday due to winter league play.

Welcome back, and thanks to everyone for getting registered! I truly appreciate everyone cooperating with the shorter deadline put on us by Georgia Soccer.

We are looking to add two players to our roster for the spring season, and will be having a tryout session this Sunday afternoon, January 24, from 4pm to 5:30 pm.

Because it will be best for any prospective players to have a chance to interact with our team, I urge everyone to attend the session. I am waiting to obtain clearance from GSA that we will be allowed to use one of the complex fields, and will notify everyone of our location once it is finalized.

As everyone knows, we are to play in the Cobb Classic on February 13-14. To have an additional bit of training, Dave will have a session on Saturday, January 30, from 9 to 10:30 am.

Our regular weekly training will start the following Monday, February 1. We will be training on Mondays and Wednesdays this spring from 6:45 to 8:15 pm.

Let's keep our fingers crossed for a dry spring. See you all on Sunday.

Registration and pre-season tournaments

As a reminder, please make sure you register your player online by Thursday, as the state has required us to declare our team by Friday the 15th.

Also, please note that we are currently planning to register to play in the Cobb tournament (February 13-14) and the Concorde tournament (February 27-28). These tournaments will be a great opportunity for our squad to get in sync before the regular season starts.

I have learned today that one of our players has a conflict with the Cobb dates and will not be available. Thus, before we commit to these tournaments, I need confirmation from all players regarding their availability for both tournaments. You can email me or call me to advise of your player's status, but I need to know by Friday.

Spring registration deadline -Important!

I received an email from the GSA registrar regarding the deadline for registration.

For unknown reasons, GYSA is requiring team declarations for U13 teams by January 15th.

Therefore, it will be necessary for all players to register by January 14th, even though GSA has a January 25th deadline.

GSA has opened registration for the spring season. Please register your player as soon as possible, but prior to Jan. 25th to avoid a late fee.

Go to the GSA homepage (www.gsasoccer.com), find the section on spring registration. You click on the link to register a select player and log into your sports affinity account. Once there you will see "create order" under your player's name - click on it and it will change to "payment/edit". Click on ''payment/edit", and from here you will follow the prompts to make a payment. Please note that you have to uncheck the $25.00 donation if you don't wish to pay it. Registration is $170.00.

You will need to register online even if paying by check.

If you have problems with registration let us know as soon as possible so we can trouble shoot.

Evaluations and end of season matters.

Dave has asked me to contact everyone to advise that after going through the evaluations, he felt he was much too tough on the boys on the numerical assessments. He has adjusted scores. (You should have received an email from zoomreports.com this morning notifying you that scores were posted.)

If anyone was unable to attend their evaluation on Monday or Wednesday, please let me hear from you by phone or email, and I will make arrangements for Dave to meet with you in January.

I will notify everyone when I obtain dates for registration for spring season, which should be the first week of January, if not before.

We are planning to register for the Cobb Classic pre-season tournament, which will take place the weekend of February 13-14, 2010.

I will be speaking with Dave after Christmas to determine our practice calendar and our return to practice date, and will advise everyone once it is finalized.

Although the fall has been very challenging from a scheduling standpoint, I must say that I appreciate all of you for being flexible and patient with all of the changes that had to be made.

The spring season will start on March 6, 2010. Mark your calendars!

More rescheduling - IMPORTANT!

Once again, the rain has caused problems for training and games.

Regarding training: Dave has advised me that his schedule changed today, and he will not be available to train on Friday. He has asked me to find out who can be available to train on Thursday, 12/3 at Parkview, instead of Friday's session. Conditions should dry sufficiently to allow for parking lot training.

Please let me know if your player will be available Thursday so I can relay to Dave how many can attend.

Our only other scheduled training session is next Wednesday, 12/9. I will notify everyone of our location as we get closer to the date.

Regarding games:

I have been advised that Miller, Schrader and Spencer fields are not expected to be in playable condition for the remainder of the season (through 12/13).

I am working to get our Tuesday match against AFU reset at TYSA. AFU does not have space next Tuesday to let us play.

I am not confident that we can get the match moved to TYSA, therefore I have asked the AFU manager to check on availability at their club for the remainder of the week. At this point, it appears unlikely that we will actually play next Tuesday, and will need to be open to another date next week if we are to get the game played.

We are still scheduled to play Norcross on Saturday, 12/12. Fortunately, we are set to play on Bender field, which should remain playable.

Training schedule for the rest of '09; Evaluations

Per my earlier emails, we are planning rescheduled games on Tuesday, Dec. 8 and Saturday, Dec. 12. Only the Dec. 12 match has been confirmed as rescheduled by GYSA thus far.

Our training schedule will be slightly modified between now and the 12th. We will plan to train on the following dates:

Wednesday, Dec. 2

Friday, Dec. 4

Wednesday, December 9

Please note that we will not train tonight, or next Monday, Dec. 7. Training times will run from 6:30 to 8pm unless alternate times are sent by email.

If the weather is clear on these dates but GSA is closed due to wet conditions, we will still train in the GSA parking lot or at Parkview. If the weather is poor, I will make every attempt to secure indoor space at the Soccer Academy in Lilburn.

Regarding evaluations: Dave has nearly completed player evaluations, and would like to conduct player/parent/coach meetings during the week of December 14th. Once he has finalized evaluations, you will have a chance to log on to your son's evaluation online and review it. I encourage you to review the evaluation with your son prior to the meeting with Dave.

Once we have settled on a location for the meetings, I will email a schedule with meeting times for each player. Time slots will likely be 10-15 minutes each, so you and your son will want to arrive prepared to discuss those topics of interest to you.

Please note that we will probably set the meeting at a local public library, which should allow for a quieter, less distracting setting than the clubhouse at GSA.

Directions to the Macon Soccer Club: Take I-285 south to I-675. Take I-675 south to I-75. Take I-75 south toward Macon and get on the I-475 bypass. As a follow up to Carolyn's email earlier today, GSA has now posted that they are closed today and tomorrow, to reopen on Wednesday.

We do not have lights at Arcado, so we will be limited in our practice time.

Dave will arrive as soon as his work schedule allows, so I plan to be at Arcado at 5:30 and will be getting the boys started as soon as they arrive to maximize our time. Although practice was to start at 6pm, they are welcome to come as early as 5:30.

GSA has rescheduled our picture time. The new time is Sunday, October 18th at 1:00 p.m. Since we do not have a game on Sunday, we will not be taking a team picture during this time, but you are welcome to get individual pictures taken.

Go south on I-85 to Newnan Exit(# 47)- Hwy. 34 / Bullsboro Drive.

On I-85 from the Virginia Ave. / Airport exit it will be approximately 25 miles.

At the I-285 / I-85 junction / connector on the southside it will be approximately 20 miles.

Turn left at the exit red light and go approximately 1.5 miles through 4 red lights (you will pass Wal-Mart on the right, Home Depot shopping center on the left). The fourth red light will be at the Yamaha Manufacturing plant on the left and the fields are visible from the street on the left just after that. I have not heard from the AFU manager regarding our Saturday match. I am still hopeful we can get the match scheduled at the AFU complex, and will let everyone know when I have updated information.

GSA Field Damage - Cancelled games - IMPORTANT!!

Below is text from an email I received regarding damage to the GSA complex and the status of our matches this weekend. We were scheduled to play two games at home this weekend, which is no longer possible.

I will be working with the other clubs to see if it is possible to play our matches as away games, as both clubs (AFU and AYSA) are local. If their clubs have not sustained damage, we may be able to play this weekend if we have space. We run the risk of having to reschedule games very late into the season if we don't get them played now.

I am hopeful I will have more information at practice tonight.

GSA Sustains Major Flood Damage

Due to the torrential rains we've received over the past week and a problem with the bridge on Cole Drive, we suffered major damage to the complex earlier this week. This includes the loss of about 60% of the fence line, many goals damaged or swept away, damage to the bridge to Schrader Field and a great deal of silt and other debris deposited on the field.

The outpouring of support from everyone has been overwhelming. The offers of help have been pouring in from a large percentage of our membership as well as that of business partners and local leagues.

Our first goal is to protect the property and to get the damaged fence line repaired as soon as possible. We expect to have resources onsite by Wednesday, September 23rd to begin this process. We are also contacting outside resources to get recommendations on the most effective way to remove the silt from the fields without incurring major damage to the fields. Finally, many have offered to participate in a "clean up day" and we are actively considering this idea as soon as the fields begin to dry and we have input from experts on the best way to proceed.

In the meantime, we are confident that the fields will be closed through at least Wednesday, September 30th. We encourage teams to find alternate practice space during this time. All home games for the weekend of September 26 & 27 have been canceled. If you were schedule to play a team from outside the association at GSA this weekend, please contact them and explain the reason for the cancellation. If you are scheduled to play a game at a venue other than GSA, please make sure you confirm with the opposing team that your game is still on as there are many other venues that have sustained flood damage.

If you have any other questions, please contact your Age Group Commissioner for assistance. Thank you again for all your support and we hope to see everyone back on the field as soon as possible.

We have secured space at the Soccer Academy in Lilburn for indoor training on Monday from 7pm to 8:30 pm., as it is probably reasonable to assume the complex will be closed.

Also, please note that we have submitted a request to the state and GSA to have our match with Inter Atlanta Blue rescheduled for next Sunday, September 27th at 2:30 pm. Although this is not finalized, please let me know if your son will have a conflict with the date or time.

I will have more info on pricing by Wed. I also have the name of a lady who will do the logo on a baseball hat if you are interested in that let me know and I will give you more info.

Saturday match v. Inter Atlanta - POSTPONED!

Unfortunately, this Saturday's match against Inter Atlanta has had to be postponed.

I was contacted by the Inter Atlanta team manager yesterday and advised that they would not have enough players to field a squad at 6pm on Saturday. Therefore, we will not have a match on Saturday.

After communicating with the U13 age coordinator at Georgia Soccer, we will now try to reschedule the match for Sunday, September 20th, or Sunday, September 27th. The match will be played at GSA.

I need to hear from everyone about availability on both of these dates as soon as possible. I do not want to agree to reschedule a match on a date when we will be missing players. Please email me at wmoise@mac.com or call me at 404-274-6512 to advise me of your son's availability on these dates.

Hoodie order

I am going to do a hoodie order. The hoodies are black and have the GSA logo in the front center and players number on the sleeve (same as many ordered last year). The cost is $25. They run a bit small and I have always found that hoodies tend to shrink up after a few washings, so I would recommend that you upsize them.

If you are interested, please email me at moisecar@comcast.net by Thursday morning and I will place an order. Please include the size and number. You can pay me when I pick them up. These are optional, no requirement to purchase one. Also, several of the parents ordered them last year. If you order a parent one you can get it with or without the number.

NASA Tournament - Times have changed!

As noted on the NASA Tournament home page, the start time for all Saturday games have changed. They will be delayed 90 minutes.

Thus, our start time for our first match will be at 12:30 pm instead of 11am, and our late match will start at 6:30 instead of 5pm. Locations have not changed.

Directions to Montgomery Elementary (Game 1):

Directions from I-285 Eastbound. (From Marietta, GA-400 and I-75)

Take I-285 to exit #29, Ashford Dunwoody Road and turn right onto Ashford Dunwoody. (Don't take far right lane, it loops

around to Lake Hearn Drive). Travel 0.6 miles and Montgomery Elementary will be on your left.

Directions from I-285 Westbound. (From Chamblee and I-85)

Take I-285 to exit #29, Ashford Dunwoody Road and turn left onto Ashford Dunwoody. Travel 3/4 mile and Montgomery

Elementary will be on your left.

Directions from GA 400.

From GA 400 exit onto I-285 Eastbound and follow the directions above.

NASA Tournament Issues - Potential Time Changes!

NASA is concerned that there may be some field changes and time changes. It is my understanding that they currently plan to update the website tonight about 7:00, and that early games may be moved to a later start time. I do not know what effect this will have on our start times, or if we will be moved to another location.

Parents:

As a reminder, we will be playing matches at two different locations off Ashford Dunwoody Road.

I have posted the match times, opponents and locations in the Upcoming Events section of our team website, and will update our site with any changes.

Please make sure you check our team website under the Upcoming Events section, or the NASA Classic website directly, if you are unsure of the location of our matches this weekend. I have linked a Google Map with each location, and they can be found on the NASA site as well.

Please note that parking at both locations is limited.

For this tournament, our kits will be:

Game 1 (11am Saturday) v. RYSA - All RED

Game 2 (5pm Saturday) v. WGFC - All WHITE

Game 3 (12:30pm Sunday) v. Cobb FC - All WHITE

If we make the final (4pm Sunday), we'll wear all WHITE.

As usual, bring all pieces in the event a change must be made.

I have spoken to Dave, and we have made arrangements to practice indoors tonight at Creekside Complex on Hwy 78 near Loganville.

We have reserved the field for one hour, from 7 to 8 pm.

Please have your player bring 4 or 5 dollars to defray the cost of field rental.

Therefore, you should receive two emails from me regarding practice today. If you do not receive two emails from me, please let me know so I can take steps to remedy the problem.

Regarding today's practice, I have received notice that the complex is CLOSED due to rain.

I will speak to Dave this evening to determine if we will have a makeup practice this week, a scrimmage over the weekend, or both, and notify everyone of the schedule.

Training for the fall season will begin on Monday, August 10th. We will train on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:00 on Spencer Field.

Please note that players should wear red shorts and white shirts for training. Socks can be red, white or black.

Additional uniform/warmup/bag order

Carolyn will be submitting another uniform order on or about August 10th, now that the warmup and the goalkeeper kit are available.

If you would like additional socks, a bag, a warmup, or any other part of the uniform kit, please do the following: 1) Contact Carolyn or me by email and let us know what pieces you want to order - we will tally the total and advise you of the amount due; or 2) Complete the uniform order form found on the GSA website and send it as an attachment to either of us by email.

Please note that we will not order gear unless we have received funds. Checks should be made out to GSA 97 PHOENIX BLACK. Do not make checks out to Eurosport.

The team website is now up and running. The web address is http://www.gsa97boysblack.lianas.net/. I will primarily be using the website to send announcements and team updates via email messages. Carolyn will be doing the same.

If you want to receive messages on multiple email addresses, you can add any additional email addresses under your profile. Please go on the site and play around and let your son do the same. As I indicated at the team meeting this week, we are hopeful this will be a team forum.

Anyone should be able to add photos. You may need to resize them so the files are not too big.

There is one glitch that the programmers are working on. If your email address was already added to another team’s site, it would not let me add you. They should have this fixed soon. However, in the meantime one suggested workaround is for you to create a new email address through your email provider and register as a new user on our site with this new address. You can then add other email addresses, including the one that you might have used on the other teams site to this new account. It has affected us, but I believe this problem is also impacting Coach Dave and the Nguyens. Please note that you can also have your cell phone added to receive announcements.

I am also going to send this same message via regular email. If you do not get it from my regular email (wmoise@mac.com) and the website email Gowan Moise noreply@lianascommunities.net , please check your spam filter to make sure it is allowing the website emails to make it through.
